Waikato Schools XC MTB Champs March 12 2026!
After an awesome turnout in 2025, we’re thrilled to welcome everyone back for the Waikato Schools XC MTB Champs 2026 — with Bay of Plenty schools just as welcome as always.
It’s shaping up to be our biggest and best event yet! Riders from Year 5 to Year 13 can expect the same fun, fast, and friendly atmosphere that makes Te Miro so special, with courses designed to challenge every level of rider.
This event is all about school spirit, teamwork, and having a blast on the trails — whether you’re racing for a podium finish, taking on your first XC event, or getting amongst the team relays and sideline cheering.
We are pleased to confirm that the Waikato Schools XC MTB Champs Race will be held on Thursday, 12 March 2026
Course Description
The XC course is approx 3km long. It is predominantly a Grade 2 track with approx 60 meters of vertical climbing.
It is suitable for most inexperienced riders. There are 2 relay courses, one for years 5 - 8 and one for years 9 - 13.
This has been done to prevent junior racers from being on the same race course as big scary college kids!
The junior relay course is short, fast and relatively flat. The senior course is short with one steepish climb.
Age Groups
AGE GROUPS INDIVIDUALS
Year 5, 6, 7, 8, U15, U17, U20, male and female
RELAY TEAMS - 3 riders per team, all members must have ridden in an individual race prior to the relay race and go to the same school.
Junior - year 5 - 8, male, female and mixed riders
Senior - year 9 - 13, male, female and mixed riders

Registrations for the 2026 WS XC MTB Champs will open soon — keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for updates.
All entries will be coordinated through schools. Once entries are live, schools will manage registrations for riders taking part in Te Miro’s biggest schools XC race.

Like all Te Miro events, this race runs on community spirit! To help keep things safe and smooth on the day, we kindly ask each school to provide 1 volunteer to every 5 riders to support with marshalling.
We’re also on the lookout for extra hands to help with registration, timing, and cheering riders on — there’s a job for everyone!
